Maxine Niehoff

Maxine Niehoff, 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, in Southaven, Mississippi. Born November 23, 1942, in Kentucky, Maxine was the second oldest of eleven siblings. She shared 58 years of marriage with her beloved husband, John Niehoff, building a life grounded in faith, family, hard work, and unconditional love. Maxine was a gifted and creative woman. She expressed her artistry through ceramics, producing beautiful pieces that reflected her patience and eye for detail. She also enjoyed sewing and had a remarkable talent for creating nearly anything she imagined. Whether crafting, decorating, or working with her hands, her creativity touched everyone around her. An avid reader, Maxine found joy and peace in books. She loved discovering new authors and treasured quiet moments spent immersed in a good story. Above all, family was her greatest joy. She loved her five children with all her heart and adored her grandchildren beyond measure. Nothing made her happier than having her family together. She delighted in traveling with them, celebrating birthdays and holidays, and capturing every special moment through her camera. Those photographs remain treasured keepsakes of a life filled with love. Maxine was a devoted mother who gave selflessly of herself. She proudly served as her daughters’ Girl Scout leader from Brownies through Girl Scouts, teaching confidence, kindness, and independence while creating lasting memories. Her kitchen was the heart of her home. She loved cooking and baking for those she loved, and holidays were especially known for her famous sour cream cookies. Anyone who visited left well-fed and warmly cared for. Those who knew Maxine will remember her gentle spirit, quiet strength, generosity, and unwavering kindness. She welcomed others with open arms, offered help without hesitation, and made everyone feel safe, accepted, and loved. She was known for her warm heart and for rarely speaking an unkind word. Cardinals held special meaning for Maxine, serving as a reminder that loved ones are never truly gone. Her family will continue to find comfort in every red cardinal they see. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Niehoff. Maxine is lovingly remembered by her children: Gail Hartoin (Jim) of Fairfield, OH, Rick Niehoff (Kayse) of Ckarlsville, GA, Tatia Niehoff of Mississippi, Tarron Durocher (Dr. Richard) of Whitleyville, TN, and Wendy Seely (Jonathan) of Coldwater, MS. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Ash Slade (Jean), Dr. Haley Durocher Baird (Ryann Baird), Conner Durocher, Noah Seely, Abigail Seely, Jonah Seely, Brad Hartoin, Jonathan Niehoff, and Douglas Skoog; as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were deeply touched by her love. Our hearts are broken by the loss of our mom, grandma, and friend. We take comfort in knowing she is reunited with Dad, the love of her life, and that one day we will be together again. Until then, we will carry her with us in every family recipe, photograph, handmade keepsake, shared story, and every red cardinal that crosses our path. Mom, thank you for loving us so completely, for teaching us kindness, for believing in us, and for showing us unconditional love. You were our safe place, our greatest supporter, and the heart of our family.
