Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Peggye Sue VanderHook, 84, of Southaven, MS, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, March 17, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 12:00 p.m., all at Coleman Funeral Home Olive Branch. Interment will be held at Mt. Zion Cemetery after the service. Pastor Edsel Bone will officiate. Peggye was born on September 25, 1940 in Independence, MS to Sidney & Ellen Freeze (Flippin). She attended Independence High School, and while raising a family, she earned a bachelor's degree from Memphis State University. Peggye met her husband, John VanderHook in Chicago, IL while attending flight attendant school. They were married at Arkabutla Baptist Church and lived in Southaven, MS throughout their marriage. Peggye worked in the corporate banking industry with several companies, including First Tennessee Bank and Paytech. During her early years, she received numerous accolades in an industry where few females presided. Her poise, intellect, and ability to establish relationships quickly gained her profound respect and admiration from her peers. Peggye was also an avid gardener. She was a Desoto County Master Gardener and a member of the American Daylily Society. Due to her knowledge and love for gardening and art, Peggy was a docent at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens, often leading in-depth tours that provided visitors with informative context, history, and education as to the significance of the exhibits and garden grounds. Peggye and her husband, John, loved the town of Gulf Shores, AL. After spending many years vacationing there, Peggye and John fulfilled a lifelong dream as they purchased two condos side by side in Gulf Shores. They wanted to have a place where their children, grandchildren, and friends could enjoy time together at the beach. Peggy Sue VanderHook is survived by her sons, Jon Mark VanderHook of Water Valley, MS and Tim VanderHook of Southaven, MS; brothers, Kenneth Freeze and Terry Freeze; nine grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and, one great-great-grandchild. Peggye was preceded in death by her husband, John; son, Dennis VanderHook; parents, Sidney and Ellen Freeze; and brother, Daniel Freeze, Jr. Online condolences can be left on Peggye’s tribute wall at www.colemanfuneralhomeob.com.
