Sidney Lee Carey

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Sidney Lee Carey, 75, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on October 25, 2024. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with the service to follow at 11:00 a.m., all at Getwell Church, 7875 Getwell Road, Southaven, MS. Pastor Bill Beavers will officiate. Interment will be held at Desoto Memorial Gardens, also in Southaven. Sid was born on January 6, 1949 in Richmond, VA to the late Samuel Sidney and Pauline White Carey. He was married to the love of his life, Donna, for 40 years. Sid graduated from Lambuth College in Jackson TN, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. After college, he went to work for Internal Revenue Service and retired after 33 years. Sid and Donna have attended Getwell Church for the past 38 years. Sid’s faith and participation in church and Sunday School were very important to him. In his early twenties, Sid developed a passion for antique cars. He enjoyed restoring an old car back to the original, seeking advice and help from his car buddies. Sid entered his cars in shows, won several best of show awards, and enjoyed serving as a judge at car shows. He enjoyed touring with cars and especially his friendships with other “old car” guys. Sid served as a past president of Memphis Antique Car Club and Mid-America Old Time Automobile Association. He also held memberships in the Model A Ford Club of America and the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America. His 1931 Chevrolet remains on display at the Museum of Automobiles on Petit Jean Mountain, AR. Another favorite hobby was woodworking. For the last several years, Sid spent time under his friend’s guidance creating items for his home including furniture, clocks, bowls, a mantel, etc. Left to cherish Sid’s memory are his wife, Donna Carey of Olive Branch, MS; brother, R. Neill Carey (Nancy) of Salisbury, MD; brother-in-law, Gary Gardner (Terry Tucker) of Norfolk, VA; mother-in-law, Alice Tapper (Andrew Sr, deceased) of Southaven, MS; sister-in-law, Lynda Tapper (Andy, deceased) of McKinney, TX; sister-in-law, Paula Spears (Dennis) of Bartlett, TN; brother-in-law, Martin Tapper (Christina) of Memphis, TN. He will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews, cousins, fellow church members and others who knew and loved him. Sid was preceded in death by his stepdaughter, Lisa Kay Dickerson; his parents, Samuel Sidney Carey and Pauline White Carey; sister, Jane C. Gardner; and grandnephew, Luca Tapper.
