Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Jerry Edward Newton, 48, of Hernando, MS, passed away on Wednesday, November 12, 2025. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22 at Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch. Pastor Chad Roberson from The Grove Baptist Church will officiate. The burial will be held at a later date at Forrest Memorial Park in Batesville, MS. Jerry was born on May 17, 1977, in Batesville, MS, to Wallie and Jimmy Newton. He was a graduate of Clarksdale High School. While he was a member at the Church of the Harvest in Olive Branch, he also attended The Grove Baptist Church in Coldwater, MS. Jerry truly loved visiting churches and would go wherever he had the opportunity to. Jerry never met a stranger, and anyone that knew him would describe him as a caring, compassionate, thoughtful, and friendly person. He was a hard worker and was always so proud of the job he did, most recently at Dollar General in Olive Branch. In his free time, Jerry loved walking, spending time outside and connecting with everyone in his neighborhood. He could easily get 20,000 steps within a day socializing with his neighbors, who quickly became part of his family. He also maintained relationships with his friends at First Baptist Church of Plantersville, MS and Meadow Brook Baptist Church in Byhalia. A true animal lover, Jerry had a heart for animals and it seemed they returned his affection. He also enjoyed cooking, and his specialties were brownies and upside-down pizza. Jerry was the life of the party, carrying his speaker and playlist to every event. He was an avid bowler that took great pride in showing up with his personal equipment and beating you. Then he would never let you forget it. Though Jerry didn’t have a driver’s license, he loved to ride his golf cart, affectionately known by his family as his “Cadillac.” The highlight of his day was updating everyone that was a part of what the family called the “JNN” (Jerry Newton Network). Jerry was loved by so many and will be missed greatly. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Waltraud “Wallie” Elisabet Losch Newton and Jimmy Edward Newton; sister, Diana DuBois; and niece, Adrienne Newton. Jerry is survived by his sisters, Sandy Guntharp (Tim) of Memphis, TN, and Claudia Newton of Olive Branch, MS; nieces, Jordan Jordan (Brandon) of Hernando, MS, and Anna Zujkowski of Olive Branch, MS; and nephew, Lake DuBois (Lex) of Neoga, IL. In lieu of traditional flowers, donations may be made in Jerry Newton’s name to The Homeless Ministry at The Grove Baptist Church in Coldwater, MS, where he volunteered. www.grovebaptist.org.
