Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Melissa “Missy” Carol Powell, 58, of Olive Branch, MS, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Monday, April 27, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., with the service to follow at 1:00 p.m., all at Longview Heights Baptist Church. Dr. Stan May of Immanuel Baptist Church will officiate. The burial will be held at a later date at West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery. Missy was born on July 30, 1967, in Memphis, TN. After graduating from cosmetology school, Missy opened her own hair salon in Southaven called Hair Designs. Missy was a hard worker, a people person, and she loved making connections. This love was apparent through the various jobs she worked throughout the years, including working as the secretary for the Olive Branch Mayor’s office for at least 8 years, the first coordinator of the Senior Citizens Center for Olive Branch before moving over to work the same position for Senior Citizens Center at Southaven, and most recently working as the office manager for Silo Square Dental. Missy cherished time spent with her seniors, her patients, her family, and friends. Missy was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. She was very competitive in all games, whether board games or church league softball. In her free time, she loved shopping, traveling, and visiting the beach. A loving wife, mother, and “Glammy,” Missy adored her family and her “fur-grandbabies,” Holly and Conley. She loved babies and kids just as much as they loved her. She will be greatly missed by her family and the many who had the honor of knowing and loving her. Missy is survived by her husband, John Veazey Powell of Hernando, MS; daughters, Emily Grace Blakely of Byhalia, MS, and Anna Caroline Blakely (Alex) of Oxford, MS; step-son, John Veazey Powell, Jr. (Caroline) of Charleston, SC; parents, Frances and Larry Charnes of Olive Branch, MS; granddaughter, Emerson Powell of Charleston, SC; grandson, Tatum Blakely of Byahlia, MS; and brother, Marty Charnes (Stephanie) of Collierville, TN.
