Sidney Vanderburg

Coleman Funeral Home of Olive Branch Howard Sidney Vanderburg, 91, of Olive Branch, MS passed on Saturday, June 21, 2025. Friends are invited to a visitation with the family on Thursday, June 26, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m., all at Maples Memorial United Methodist Church. Interment will be held at Blocker Cemetery. Rev. Neville Vanderburg, Rev. Kerry Powell, and Rev. Stephen Sparks will officiate. Sidney was born on September 4, 1933 in Holly Springs, MS to Ira and Robert Funderburk. He was a graduate of Olive Branch High School, Class of 1951. Sidney studied at Mississippi State but ultimately received his Bachelors in Industrial Management from Memphis State University. He was an entrepreneur and owner of Vanderburg’s Automotive Center in Old Towne, Olive Branch. Sidney was a member of the Olive Branch Lion’s Club, Olive Branch Sportsman Club, a lifelong member of Maples Memorial United Methodist Church, and was a current member of First Global Methodist Church at the time of his passing. He sang in the choir for nearly 50 years and had a heart for music. Sidney also loved bird watching and enjoyed his time outside observing the wild life. He was passionate about his family, especially his grandbabies, and he was known for his infectious smile and giggle. Left to cherish Sidney’s memory is his wife, Martha Doddridge Vanderburg of Olive Branch; daughter, Julie Randolph (Zach) of Franklin, TN; sons, Rev. Neville Vanderburg (Cathy) of Winona, MS and Jonathan Vanderburg (Renee) of Olive Branch; brothers, R.P. Funderburk, III (Liz) of Olive Branch and Laney Funderburk (Bettye B) of Hernando, MS; seven grandchildren, Ben, Tiffany (Ryan), Price (Brittany), Josh (Erin), Hunter (Lori), Sidney, and Houston; five great-grandchildren, Mabrie, Hallie, Landrie, Emma, and Luke; and two nieces and five nephews; Robert Lee Owens (his right-hand man); and a host of other friends. Sidney was preceded in death by his first wife, Orafine Vanderburg; mother, Ira Clay Funderburk; father, Robert Price Funderburk, Jr.; daughter, Valinda Childress; brother, David Vanderburg; In lieu of traditional flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sidney’s honor to the Methodist Children's Home of Mississippi (www.mchms.org), St Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org), or to a charity of the donor's choice.
